1. About SPA The Sustainability Professionals Association (SPA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting professionalism and excellence within the sustainability industry. Founded in 2023 by a group of experienced sustainability practitioners, SPA aims to empower and support sustainability professionals, ensuring they are recognized and respected for their expertise and contributions to the field.


2. Introduction As a member-driven organization, SPA provides a platform for sustainability practitioners to connect, collaborate, and share knowledge. Through educational programs, networking events, and professional development opportunities, SPA helps its members stay at the forefront of the rapidly evolving sustainability landscape. SPA is committed to setting high standards for the sustainability profession, advocating for best practices, and promoting ethical conduct among its members. By fostering a strong sense of community and professional identity, SPA seeks to elevate the status of sustainability practitioners and highlight the critical role they play in shaping a more sustainable future for organizations and society as a whole.


3. Vision To become the leading sustainability professional association in Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area, fostering the exchange of sustainability knowledge, and driving sustainability practices.


4. Mission Our mission is to promote the development of sustainability professionals by formulating and maintaining a qualification framework that enhances and raises standards in sustainability-related fields. We serve as a hub for these professionals to exchange insights, wisdom, and proven strategies, fostering a collaborative environment dedicated to sustainability excellence.

6. Membership and Designatory Letters
Different membership levels depend on their educational background, experience, and professional qualifications. Membership levels include:

  • Founding member (MSPA (Founding))
  • ​Full member (MSPA),
  • Associate member (ASPA), and
  • Affiliate members.

Types of Membership

Requirements and Rights Founding Member
  • Who meets the requirements of Full Member with distinguished and lasting contributions to the field of sustainability. He or she will be invited by the Board of Directors / Executive Committee Members for the nomination.
Full Member
  • An individual who meets any one of the following criteria:
  • (i) With at least 7 years of working experience in sustainability-related job(s), or
    (ii) With at least 5 years of working experience in sustainability-related job(s) and hold a college degree with sustainability-related course(s) as their major subject of education or study.
  • Rights and privileges:
  • (i) Receive notice of general meetings of the Members.
    (ii) Have the opportunity to speak and vote at the general meetings of the Members.
    (iii) Nominate candidates for election to the Board of the SPA.
Associate Member
  • An individual who meets any one of the following criteria:
  • (i) With at least 2 years of working experience in sustainability-related job(s), or
    (ii) Hold a college degree with sustainability-related course(s) as their major subject of education or study.
  • Rights and privileges:
  • (i) Entitled to apply to become a Full Member after one year of membership.
Affiliate Member
  • An individual who meets any one of the following criteria:
  • (i) Currently studying sustainability-related course(s) in college as their major subject of education or study, or
    (ii) Completed at least a 30-hour sustainability-related course.

Application
  • Applicant must be an individual who is 18 years old or above. Membership is not transferrable.
  • The membership year runs from 1st January to 31st December each year. The annual membership fees are:
o Founding Member: HK$5,000 (one-off contributions with subsequent annual membership waived.)
o Full Member: HK$1,200
o Associate Member: HK$600
o Affiliate Member: HK$300
